Stocks, bank balances and small Bitcoin payments all moved further onchain on October 8, and each one widens what crypto can be used for.

  • Apple, Nvidia and five other US stocks arrive on Solana as tokens that settle in USDC.
  • Standard Chartered plans custody for crypto, stablecoins and tokenized assets in Singapore.
  • Bitcoin over Lightning, by QR code: WhiteBIT opens deposits and withdrawals.

Each story brings a different kind of value onto crypto rails, from shares to corporate holdings to everyday Bitcoin transfers.

Securitize launched tokenized US stocks on Solana, The Block reported on October 8, starting with Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Alphabet, Tesla, Meta and Amazon. Each token is backed 1:1 by real shares held at Securitize Markets, and holders receive dividends and other shareholder entitlements. Trades settle in USDC.

Trading opens with extended US market hours, and Securitize plans to move toward 24/7. Tokenized stocks have passed $3 billion in onchain value, according to The Block.

Zypto take: A share of Apple that settles in a dollar stablecoin puts stocks on the same rails as cross-border payments. Like any issuer-backed token, the issuer keeps control over it, so it’s worth knowing which tier of ownership you’re holding. Zypto App already gives access to real world assets alongside 24,000+ crypto assets across 20+ blockchains, Solana among them.

Standard Chartered plans crypto custody in Singapore

Standard Chartered plans to offer digital asset custody in Singapore, Cointelegraph reported on October 8, covering select cryptocurrencies, stablecoins and tokenized real world assets. The service is for institutional clients and corporates that qualify as accredited investors. No launch date was given.

It’s the bank’s latest crypto move this year. In May it agreed to acquire Zodia Custody’s custody business, and last month it launched spot Bitcoin and Ether trading in the UAE.

Zypto take: A global bank holding stablecoins for corporate clients brings crypto inside the banking relationship large companies already have. Businesses that want to hold crypto on their own terms can look at Zypto’s business custody, which offers flexible models from full self custody to assisted, across the chains Zypto supports.

WhiteBIT opens Bitcoin Lightning deposits

WhiteBIT, a crypto exchange based in Zug, Switzerland, added Lightning Network support for Bitcoin deposits and withdrawals, Bitcoin Magazine reported on October 8. Users can send or receive Bitcoin over Lightning with a QR code or payment details, paying a 0.25% deposit fee and a 0.15% withdrawal fee.

WhiteBIT named remittances, account top-ups and merchant-style QR payments as uses. Lightning payments settle off the main Bitcoin chain, which keeps them fast and cheap.

Zypto take: With another large platform on Lightning, small, quick Bitcoin payments get closer to routine. You can put Bitcoin to work today, too: Zypto App lets you pay bills with crypto across 87,000+ billers in 120+ countries. Download Zypto App.

Key Takeaways

  • Stablecoins are becoming the settlement layer for more than payments, and shares are the latest example.
  • Banks are building crypto custody into services their corporate clients already use.
  • Lightning support on big platforms makes quick Bitcoin payments an everyday option.
  • Who issues an asset and who holds it still decides who can freeze it, and self custody keeps that control with you.
  • As more kinds of value settle onchain, keeping them in one self-custody wallet matters more.
