Today in Crypto - Citi Merchants Can Now Take Stablecoins

Citi merchants take stablecoins via Coinbase, RedotPay clears IPO audits, Breez adds stablecoin receive.

The sender picks the stablecoin and the receiver picks what lands. A bank’s merchants, an 8.5 million user payments app and a Bitcoin wallet toolkit all moved the conversion out of sight today.

  • Citi’s merchant platform now accepts stablecoins at checkout, with Coinbase converting and Citi settling.
  • 8.5 million users in, RedotPay has finished its Big Four audits and says its US listing is still on.
  • Breez gave Bitcoin wallet builders a way to receive USDT and USDC from 30+ networks.

In each case the person paying and the person being paid no longer have to agree on an asset first. The conversion happens between them, which is where it belongs.

Citi and Coinbase switched on stablecoin payments for Citi’s institutional clients. Businesses on Spring by Citi, the bank’s merchant platform, can accept stablecoins at checkout. Coinbase converts the tokens to fiat and Citi settles the funds, so the merchant never has to hold crypto.

The second half runs the other way. Coinbase Virtual Accounts now use Citi’s Virtual Account Wallet to convert incoming fiat into stablecoins automatically. Both launch in the US first and build on a partnership the two companies announced in October 2025.

Zypto take: Taking stablecoins at the till without holding them is a gentle first step for a business, and what to keep can be decided later. Zypto Pay lets a merchant settle in crypto or auto-convert to local currency, so that choice stays with the business.

RedotPay, the Hong Kong stablecoin payments app, completed its financial audit and a review of its anti-money-laundering controls, both carried out by Big Four firms. The financial audit is a requirement for a US listing, and a spokesperson said there has been no deferral of the IPO, pushing back on an August Bloomberg report.

The app lets users hold stablecoins, use them through a linked Visa card and send money across borders. It had 8.5 million users in July, an operating margin above 50% and record transaction volume in the second quarter. No listing date has been set, and the company is targeting a valuation above $5 billion.

Zypto take: The figure worth watching is the 8.5 million: people keeping dollars as stablecoins so they can move them and use them day to day. Zypto App holds stablecoins in your own wallet across 20+ blockchains and puts that same balance to work on bills, mobile top-ups and gift cards.

Breez lets Bitcoin wallets take stablecoins

Breez added a Receive USDT/USDC feature to its SDK, the toolkit developers use to build Bitcoin payments into their apps. The receiver picks the sender’s network and an amount, the SDK generates a deposit address showing what will arrive, and Flashnet handles the conversion in the background.

USDT and USDC are accepted from 30+ networks, including Ethereum, Base, Solana and Tron. The funds land in the receiver’s non-custodial wallet as Bitcoin, or as dollars through Breez’s Stable Balance feature. It follows the send-side stablecoin feature Breez shipped in June.

Zypto take: This is good ownership design. Someone pays in an issuer’s token on whichever chain they happen to use, and the receiver can end up holding a base asset they fully own, in a wallet they control.

Moving value between chains and assets like that is what Zypto’s 1,000,000+ crosschain routes are for, inside the same self custody app. Download Zypto App.

Key Takeaways

  • The payer and the payee no longer need to hold the same asset, because the conversion is moving into the software between them.
  • Accepting comes first and holding comes later, and that order makes it easy for a business to start taking stablecoins.
  • RedotPay’s growth comes from use, with 8.5 million people keeping dollars they can move.
  • What you end up holding still matters. An issuer can freeze its stablecoin, and a base asset like Bitcoin has no issuer to do it.
  • Breez already makes what lands in a wallet a setting the receiver picks, much like choosing a display currency.
