Who actually controls your money, and on whose timeline? One tech giant just made the answer a phone setting, one failed bank just made it a resignation speech, and one government just made it a tax rate.

  • Samsung Wallet switches on USDC accounts on Solana for 82 million Galaxy phones, reaching more than 60 countries.
  • Three million Paraguayans lost access to their savings, and their president lost his job, when Ueno Bank collapsed.
  • Greece sets a 10% tax on crypto gains starting 2027, with a 12-month amnesty for back-filing.

Every one of these events turns on the same lever: who decides when your money works for you. The companies and governments answering that question fastest are the ones setting the terms everyone else will live under.

Samsung Wallet adds USDC on Solana

Samsung Wallet’s Stablecoin Account is live for eligible US Galaxy users, letting them buy, hold, send and receive USDC on Solana without a separate crypto app or managing private keys. Coinbase holds the USDC as sub-custodian, and Bastion runs the transfer infrastructure.

Users can send to more than 60 countries, where recipients get paid in local currency, reaching roughly 82 million compatible Galaxy devices.

Zypto take: Samsung just gave USDC a home on one chain, behind one custodian, built into a wallet already on tens of millions of Galaxy phones. Zypto App already moves USDC across 20+ blockchains, so which network holds it stays the holder’s call, not the manufacturer’s.

Paraguay’s bank collapse topples a president

Paraguay's President Santiago Peña Source: Decrypt

Paraguay’s president Santiago Peña resigned Thursday after Ueno Bank collapsed and froze access for roughly 3 million customers, more than 60% of the country’s adults, after regulators found its capital had fallen far below the legal minimum. Lawmakers voted 78-0 to impeach him hours later.

The central bank is guaranteeing deposits up to about $36,000 per holder, with payouts starting on smaller, debt-free accounts first.

Zypto take: Three million Paraguayans just found out their savings move on their bank’s schedule, not their own. A base asset like Bitcoin has no bank behind it to run short of capital, and self custody in Zypto App means no third party decides when funds become reachable again.

Greece approves a 10% crypto tax

Source: CoinDesk

Greece’s parliament has approved a national tax framework for crypto, setting a 10% rate on capital gains above 500 euros a year and a 15% levy on staking, lending and DeFi returns, treated as interest income. The rules take effect January 1, 2027.

Investors get 12 months to declare past gains without late-filing penalties, and losses above the threshold carry forward for five years.

Zypto take: A government putting a clear, single number on crypto gains, effective 2027, treats everyday crypto use as a normal taxable event rather than a gray area to avoid. The Zypto Premium VISA Card already converts crypto to cash the moment it’s loaded, giving a holder one clear, chosen point to account for rather than tracking every transaction.

Key Takeaways

  • A single custodian and a single chain are still the default for mainstream stablecoin access, even at Samsung’s scale.
  • Bank failures remain the sharpest argument for self custody, whether or not the headline mentions crypto.
  • Clear, moderate tax rates are becoming a competitive tool for countries courting everyday crypto holders.
  • Real-world crypto keeps showing up in unexpected places: a phone’s wallet app, a toppled government, a finance ministry’s spreadsheet.
  • Expect more governments to trade ambiguity for a defined number, now that Greece has shown what that number can look like.
