Today in Crypto - Morgan Stanley Puts Stocks Onchain

Morgan Stanley tokenizes stocks via DTCC, Schroders brings a bond fund to Solana, SEC clears Canton Coin.

Tokenized ownership just got pushed forward from two directions at once. A Wall Street custodian turned on its rails for stocks and Treasuries, and a federal regulator told the token running part of that system it isn’t a security.

  • Twenty firms, Morgan Stanley among them, start tokenizing U.S. stocks and Treasuries through DTCC’s new system.
  • Schroders, a $1.1 trillion asset manager, brings an emerging-market bond strategy onchain for the first time on Solana.
  • SEC staff call Canton Coin a digital commodity, clearing the token behind part of that tokenization service.
  • A Latin American Bitcoin school rebrands as ISMOS and sets out to train a million developers worldwide.

Ownership is being rebuilt from both ends today. Trillion-dollar balance sheets are moving real assets onto public blockchains, while the people who will build what comes next are getting a way in regardless of where they live.

Morgan Stanley puts US stocks onchain

Morgan Stanley says it’s among the first banks to tokenize U.S. equities and Treasuries through the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation’s new Tokenization Service, which went live October 28. DTC, which holds more than $114 trillion in assets, mints tokens against securities it already holds, and holders can convert back or move the tokens to their own wallet.

Twenty firms have signed up so far, including J.P. Morgan, Citi, Bank of America, Fidelity, Citadel Securities and UBS. The service runs on the Canton Network and DTCC’s private Besu blockchain, following a December 2025 SEC no-action letter.

Zypto take: Wall Street just spent a year building permissioned rails for tokenized stocks and Treasuries. The same category, treasuries, gold and stocks brought onchain, already sits inside Zypto’s real-world assets wallet, held directly rather than through a custodian’s ledger.

Schroders brings a bond fund to Solana

Schroders, which manages $1.1 trillion in assets, is bringing its emerging-market bond strategy onchain through Centrifuge, its first deployment on Solana. The fund is structured as a feeder with a tokenized share class, so investors hold tokens tracking the net asset value of Schroders’ existing bond fund rather than the underlying bonds themselves.

Centrifuge already carries more than $750 million in tokenized assets, and Schroders joins asset managers including New York Life in bringing fund share classes onchain.

Zypto take: A $1.1 trillion asset manager picking Solana for its first tokenized fund is a vote for which chains can carry institutional volume.

Solana already carries 3,000+ tokens inside Zypto App. Emerging-market bond exposure joining that list is one more real-world asset ordinary holders will eventually be able to reach for.

SEC calls Canton Coin a digital commodity

The SEC’s Division of Corporation Finance told Canton’s developers in a letter dated November 3 that it views Canton Coin as a “digital commodity,” and will not recommend enforcement if the token is minted programmatically without registration. Staff accepted that the token’s value comes from how the network runs and from supply and demand, not from a central team’s efforts.

The relief is the first of its kind since the SEC’s March guidance on digital commodities, and it lands days after DTCC’s tokenization service, which partly runs on Canton, went live.

Zypto take: A regulator looking at a network with no central party and concluding there’s nothing to gate is the kind of clarity Zypto’s custody clients and institutional partners have been waiting for.

Clear rules on which tokens count as commodities make it easier for banks and businesses to hold them with confidence, and to build on top of them.

A Bitcoin school goes global

Librería de Satoshi, a Bitcoin education organization that started in Latin America, has rebranded as ISMOS and launched a global platform aiming to train a million Bitcoin and open-source developers. The platform offers study programs, mentorship and developer residencies in Spanish, Portuguese and English, backed by Btrust and the Human Rights Foundation.

Since 2021 the organization has reached more than 3,665 people across 40-plus countries. Founder Dulce Villarreal said she built it because “talent is universal; opportunity is not.”

Zypto take: A developer’s postcode shouldn’t decide whether they get to build the next generation of crypto tools, and it shouldn’t decide whether someone gets to use them either.

Zypto App works the same way for a user in Lagos as one in London, with the same 20+ blockchains and no local gatekeeper standing in the way. Download Zypto App.

Key Takeaways

  • Tokenized stocks, bonds and Treasuries are moving from pilot projects to trillion-dollar balance sheets.
  • Regulators are keeping pace with institutional tokenization instead of trailing behind it.
  • Solana and other base chains are proving they can carry serious asset-manager volume alongside retail trading.
  • Access to crypto’s builder economy is expanding as fast as the balance sheets moving onto it.
