What is Caldera?
Caldera (ERA) is a rollups-as-a-service platform that lets teams launch their own application-specific blockchains, called rollups, that settle on Ethereum. It has two core parts: a Rollup Engine for deploying customizable Layer 2 chains, and the Metalayer, which connects those chains so assets and messages can move between them. Caldera supports several frameworks, including Arbitrum Nitro and Optimism Bedrock for optimistic rollups and zkSync's ZK Stack and Polygon CDK for zero-knowledge rollups.
ERA is the platform's native token. It launched in July 2025 and is used for gas payments across the Metalayer, staking by validators that secure cross-chain messaging, and governance voting. ERA is deployed on Ethereum and has also gone live on Arbitrum One and Base.
As a 2025 token tied to evolving infrastructure, ERA is a newer asset with a shorter track record than long-established networks.
