What is Aptos?
Aptos is a layer-1 blockchain that launched its mainnet in October 2022. It was created by Aptos Labs, founded by former Meta engineers including Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching, who carried forward technology from the abandoned Diem project. Like its peer Sui, Aptos uses the Move programming language, and it leans on parallel transaction execution to process many operations at once while targeting sub-second finality.
APT is the native token of the Aptos network. It pays transaction fees, is staked to validators to help secure the chain and reach consensus, and is used for on-chain governance. Stakers can earn rewards, and the rules around fees and rewards can themselves be changed through governance votes. The initial supply at mainnet was 1 billion APT.
